Silicon Shutdown Leaves $10M in Assets at Risk
The Ethereum layer 2 network Silicon is shutting down on December 31st, leaving nearly $10 million in assets stuck on the chain. The closure comes after a withdrawal period that started on September 2nd, which gave users until year-end to exit.
Silicon's explorer and network will shut down afterward, making it impossible for any remaining assets to be recovered.
The network was built with Polygon CDK and connected to Agglayer, with Korbit being one of its major crypto exchange partners. Korbit's Web3 Wallet, which ran on Silicon, is also being discontinued less than two years after launch.
Assets originally bridged from Ethereum can be returned to the mainnet during the withdrawal window, but external-wallet users must initiate a withdrawal and complete the required finalization before the cutoff date. Tokens issued directly on Silicon face a harder route, as they cannot be bridged directly to Ethereum and depend on liquidity remaining inside the network.
