Silver Surpasses NVIDIA as Second-Largest Asset, Triggers Bitcoin Breakout Hopes
Silver has temporarily surpassed NVIDIA as the world's second-largest asset by market capitalization, trading at $82.7 per ounce on January 7.
The precious metal's rally has led analysts to draw comparisons with Bitcoin, suggesting that the cryptocurrency may be positioned for a similar breakout.
Silver extended its gains beyond $80 per ounce today, pushing its market capitalization above NVIDIA's $4.55 trillion valuation.
Wall Street Mav attributed the surge to dual demand drivers: investors purchasing silver as a safe-haven asset and industrial applications in electronics, solar panels, artificial intelligence hardware, and electric vehicles accounting for roughly half of global consumption.
Analysts are now eyeing Bitcoin for a potential breakout, citing similarities with silver's cup-and-handle formation. Crypto Rover noted that gold and silver surged after breaking out of monthly accumulation zones, which Bitcoin has yet to confirm.
