Simulated Fly Trades Cryptos with 1% Loss
A team of researchers has successfully mapped an adult male fruit fly's brain and ventral nerve cord, revealing 166,000 neurons and 125 million synaptic connections.
Coinbase software engineer Alex Wormuth has used this neural graph to create a simulation of the fly's brain, which is now trading Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDC, and SOL on Coinbase.
The 'fly' currently holds $59 worth of USDC, almost $5 worth of BTC, $17 of ETH, and $17 of SOL. Despite a initial loss of almost a dollar after a day's trading, the fly's overall returns are only down 1%.
Wormuth has also linked the 'fly' brain to Coinbase's AI agentic software, allowing it to buy, sell, or hold crypto in response to live prices. The fly's trades are controlled by neuron activity, which stimulates dopamine neurons when the fly makes a profit.
