Simulated Fruit-Fly Brain Trades Bitcoin with Uncertain Results
A recent experiment called Stonkfly has been making waves in the financial and crypto communities. The project, developed by open-source developer Alex Wormuth, uses a simulated fruit-fly brain to trade Bitcoin on Coinbase.
The software, released in September 2026, takes advantage of a large-scale connectome dataset from a neuroscience database, which includes approximately 160,000 virtual neurons that are shown Bitcoin price charts and asked to make buy-or-sell decisions.
However, behind the flashy headlines, a closer look at the project's documentation reveals disclaimers from the developer stating that 'no ability to learn profitably has been demonstrated whatsoever.'
