Singapore Citizen Pleads Guilty to Crypto Theft Ring Worth Over $245 Million
A young Singapore citizen has pleaded guilty to leading a massive crypto theft operation that netted over $245 million in stolen assets. Malone Lam, 22, admitted to participating in a racketeering conspiracy and coordinating an international network of hackers who targeted crypto owners through social engineering and home break-ins.
The group, which operated from October 2023 to May 2025, used online aliases to select targets and coordinate roles. They spent lavishly on luxury items, including private jet rentals, homes in Los Angeles, the Hamptons, and Miami, and exotic cars valued at up to $3.8 million.
The operation was revealed after prosecutors accused Lam and another individual of stealing over 4,100 Bitcoin from a single Washington D.C. victim on August 18, 2024, worth around $230 million at the time. The stolen crypto was laundered through exchanges, mixing services, and other channels before being converted into luxury goods.
