Singapore Cops Thwart $9M Crypto Scam Losses Through Joint Operation
The Singapore Police Force's Cyber Command conducted its fourth anti-cryptocurrency scam operation from July 1 to August 31, teaming up with eight digital payment token service providers. The joint effort helped prevent more than 355 victims from losing over $8.94 million.
Through advanced blockchain analysis using tools from Chainalysis and TRM Labs, officers identified various types of scams, including government officials impersonation, investment, and job scams. Participating DPT service providers shared customer information with the police to pinpoint victims, allowing officers to intervene via phone or in-person.
The operation also led to the identification of 50 overseas victims, with blockchain intelligence being shared with foreign law enforcement agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Cybercrime Squad New South Wales Police Force.
According to the police, this fourth operation 'reaffirms the importance of sustained public-private partnerships and international collaboration in the fight against scams.' They will continue working closely with DPT service providers and other stakeholders to combat cybercrime.
