Singaporean Citizen Pleads Guilty to $245 Million Crypto Heist
A 22-year-old Singaporean citizen has pleaded guilty to leading an international scheme that stole $245 million in cryptocurrency. Malone Lam and his accomplices hacked databases, collected personal data of crypto investors, and pressured victims into disclosing their login credentials.
The group's operation ran from October 2023 to May 2025, with the stolen Bitcoins being laundered and spent on a luxurious lifestyle, including private jet rentals and expensive real estate in Los Angeles and Miami.
Lam was detained in 2024 in a rented house in Miami. The case highlights the importance of understanding crypto wallets, exchanges, smart contracts, and digital masking methods to combat cybercrime.
