A Singaporean citizen has pleaded guilty to leading a $245 million crypto theft ring. Malone Lam, 22, admitted his role in the operation that stole over 4,100 BTC from a single Washington D.C. victim in August 2024.

The group used social engineering and occasionally broke into homes to obtain the information needed to drain victims' wallets. They impersonated companies like Google and Gemini to deceive their targets.

Lam coordinated the roles of other conspirators, who operated from California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and abroad. The scheme was developed through connections made on online gaming platforms.

The stolen assets funded lavish spending, including $500,000 in nightclub bills and watches priced at over $500,000 each.
