Singaporean Man Pleads Guilty to Leading $245 Million Crypto Theft Gang
A Singaporean man, Malone Lam, has pleaded guilty to leading a cryptocurrency theft gang that stole over $245 million from victims across the United States.
Lam used online aliases such as 'Anne Hathaway', '$$$', and 'King Greavy' to operate his criminal operation from October 2023 until May 2025. He recruited accomplices through online gaming platforms, with some members providing different functions like database hacking, target identification, and money laundering.
The gang spent their ill-gotten gains extravagantly, running up nightclub tabs of half a million dollars per night, purchasing luxury cars worth up to $3.8 million each, and renting mansions in LA, the Hamptons, and Miami. They also hired private jets and security guards.
Lam's gang was eventually caught after their conspicuous spending attracted attention from police investigators. Fellow conspirator Evan Tangeman, 22, was sentenced to over five years for laundering stolen funds, while other members of the gang are still working through the courts.
