Sky Mavis Hands Axie Classic Over to Players
Sky Mavis, the studio behind Axie Infinity, is handing over control of its original card-battling game, Axie Classic, to the community. This decision comes after Season 16 wraps up on September 2, with 36,000 bAXS in rewards on the table for top players and guilds.
The studio will put regular competitive seasons and Axie Classic development on hold, but not shut down the game entirely. Instead, Sky Mavis wants to empower the community to take control of where Axie Classic goes next.
As part of this transition, the company is putting Classic quests from the Bounty Board as of September 10. The details of how this handover will work are still unclear, but it may prove a defining test of player ownership in blockchain gaming.
