Solana Activates Record-Breaking Transaction Upgrade
Solana's network has undergone significant changes in recent times, and one of its biggest transaction upgrades in years has been activated on mainnet. The upgrade, Transaction V1, increases the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, allowing for more complex operations to be carried out in a single transaction. This change is expected to benefit applications that currently have to split complex operations across multiple transactions.
The activation of Transaction V1 comes with a companion change that reduces rent fees for token accounts under a five-phase reduction plan, aiming to cut the costs by 90% when all phases are complete. The timing coincides with a record-breaking number of new token launches on Solana, which crossed 263,000 in a single day.
The upgrades and changes point to Solana's engineering priorities, focusing on making the base layer cheaper and more spacious for high-frequency, high-account-count activity.
