Solana AMM Aquifer Hit with Estimated $2.5 Million Loss in Wallet Exploit

The Solana-based automated market maker Aquifer has suffered an estimated $2.5 million loss due to an exploit involving compromised wallets on both Solana and Ethereum.

The protocol has offered a 20% whitehat bounty if at least 80% of the stolen assets are returned by September 3, indicating an effort to recover some of the lost funds without resorting to legal action.

The exact method of compromise remains unclear, with no evidence yet that Aquifer's smart contracts were directly exploited. This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in DeFi, particularly related to wallet access rather than vulnerabilities in smart contract code.
