Solana narrowly avoided losing transaction finality after Marinade Finance reported that 28.83% of staked SOL went delinquent, leaving it just 4.5 percentage points short of a critical threshold.

The incident occurred early Wednesday and affected 90 validators, with a combined loss of 333 SOL in rewards, according to Marinade. The staking protocol said that if the delinquency had exceeded one-third of stake, 'nothing finalizes.'

Teraswitch confirmed a 12-site routing failure, which led to the disruption. Marinade stated that 94% of the 118.89 million SOL on its autonomous system went dark, with another 14.1 million SOL also affected.

The incident highlighted the risks associated with shared infrastructure and concentration limits in autonomous systems and data centers. Marinade said it would review its concentration limits and publish whether validators use hot-swap systems and automatic failover.
