The Solana blockchain is set to experience a significant upgrade as the Solana Foundation has announced plans to increase the block limit from 60 million compute units (CU) to 100 million CU. This move aims to enhance processing capabilities and accommodate growing demand for block capacity.

According to the Solana Foundation, approximately 11.2% of blocks generated since the last upgrade on July 22, 2025, have exceeded 56 million CU usage, indicating a need for increased capacity. The upgrade will increase block capacity by around 66%, allowing for more transactions to be processed without affecting application development methods.

The Solana Foundation emphasized that this upgrade will prioritize processing power and scalability while maintaining the integrity of the network. It also noted that the change only affects the overall block limit, leaving individual account limits unchanged at 12 million CU.
