Solana Blockchain Teeters on Collapse Due to Data Center Glitch
Solana's blockchain nearly froze on Wednesday due to a routing glitch at a major data center provider, Marinade Finance said.
The issue occurred when a bad internet route from Teraswitch's Miami facility affected data centers across Europe and Asia, causing almost 90 validators to go offline and resulting in the loss of $333 worth of SOL rewards.
According to Marinade, Solana came within 20 million tokens of reaching its threshold for finality, which would have frozen the entire blockchain. Fortunately, this did not happen, but it serves as a warning that more than one-third of the network's tokens going offline at once could cause irreparable damage.
