Solana Boosts Block Capacity with Major Upgrade

Solana is set to undergo a major network upgrade on July 29 that will increase its block compute limit from 60 million to 100 million Compute Units (CUs). This move aims to boost the network's capacity by approximately 66% while maintaining block times at 400 milliseconds.

The upgrade, which is based on proposal SIMD-0286 authored by Jito Labs, does not alter transaction formats or require developers to update their applications. Instead, it increases the total amount of computation available within each block while leaving other network limits unchanged.

This change is part of Solana's broader effort to expand its network throughput and accommodate growing trading activity, payments, and on-chain applications. The increased capacity will primarily benefit unrelated applications operating simultaneously across the network.
