Solana Co-Founder Slams AI Slowdown Proposal as Corporate Power Play
Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has criticized prominent AI executives for supporting a proposed deceleration of AI advancement. Yakovenko suggested that the campaign to slow down AI development prioritizes protecting dominant market positions of major players as they approach trillion-dollar market capitalizations rather than genuine safety considerations.
In an essay titled 'We Must Pace the Frontier,' Anthropic's Dario Amodei advocated for decelerating the pace of AI capability expansion rather than halting research entirely. The framework consists of three components: external evaluators with continuous access, coordination among leading AI firms in democratic nations to establish unified safety standards, and global cooperation.
Sam Altman of OpenAI publicly supported Amodei's framework, stating 'I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier.' Elon Musk also endorsed the slowdown proposal. David Sacks, previously White House AI adviser, argued that leading AI companies should self-regulate rather than impose industry-wide restrictions.
