Solana Cracks 4K Transaction Barrier

Solana has significantly expanded its transaction capacity, tripling it to 4,096 bytes. This change, which went live on September 15 at the start of epoch 1035, was led by development firm Anza and supported by the Solana Foundation.

The new format, known as Transaction V1, allows for more complex transactions, including zero-knowledge proofs, large multisig approvals, and multi-step trades. This upgrade is expected to benefit company wallets with multiple approvers and applications that use zero-knowledge proofs.

Legacy and v0 transactions will continue to work, but developers must update their apps and data services to read the new format. Validators and RPC operators should also run Agave v4.2.2 or later to ensure compatibility.
