Solana Cuts Block Speed to 350 Milliseconds in First Reduction Since Launch
Solana's mainnet slot time has been reduced from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds, marking the first such reduction since the network launched.
The upgrade, tracked as SIMD-0525, went live on mainnet Friday and is part of a phased approach to further reduce slot times. The next target is 300 milliseconds, with three more 50-millisecond cuts planned through separate feature gates.
Solana credited improvements to Turbine and Replay, the network's block propagation layer and validator verification process respectively, as the technical enablers that made a shorter slot time survivable at scale.
