Solana Cuts Slot Time to 350 Milliseconds in Pursuit of 200-Millisecond Target
Solana's mainnet slot time has been reduced to 350 milliseconds, marking the first change since its launch. The reduction is part of a four-stage plan that aims to reach a target of 200 milliseconds.
According to Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, 'We're in a new era of 350ms.'
The slot time was reduced from 400 milliseconds, taking effect at epoch 1020. Testnet has already reached an effective 200-millisecond target, while devnet sits at 300 milliseconds with its gate switched on.
Mert Mumtaz, chief executive of Helius, predicts that shorter slots paired with a higher block limit will quadruple network throughput in the near term.
