Solana Cuts Slot Time to 350ms, Eyes 200ms Target
Solana's network slot time has been reduced to 350 milliseconds as part of its SIMD-0525 plan. According to Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, this marks 'a new era of 350ms' with the next target being a 300ms slot time.
The change is the first step towards achieving faster transaction processing times, which are expected to eventually reach 200 milliseconds. The current average slot time on Solana stands at 360 milliseconds, down from its original 400 millisecond target.
As part of the same effort, network fees have decreased in Q2 2026 to approximately $50 million, representing a 44% quarter-over-quarter drop, according to CryptoRank. The organization also notes that this decline is tied to a broader shift in activity on the platform.
