Solana Delays Alpenglow Upgrade to October, Targets 150ms Finality
Solana has pushed back its planned upgrade to Alpenglow, aiming for a faster finality time. The new timeline now sets the upgrade for October 2026 with the release of Agave 4.3.
The goal is to reduce finality times from the current 12.8 seconds to around 150 milliseconds, which should be beneficial for exchanges and payment systems requiring stronger certainty that transactions cannot be reversed.
The upgrade has been delayed from September 2026, with ongoing testing and security reviews including a bug bounty program offering up to 50,000 SOL to ensure readiness before mainnet deployment.
