Solana DEX Volume Dominates Major CEXs in Weekly Trading

Solana's decentralized exchanges (DEXs) have taken over major centralized exchanges (CEXs) in terms of weekly trading volume for five consecutive weeks, according to data from DeFiLlama. This trend indicates a shift away from CEXs and towards DEXs, with Solana leading the charge.

The combined spot trading volumes of Bybit, Coinbase, and Kraken have been surpassed by Solana's DEX volume, with only Binance trailing behind. The growth in Solana's DEX volume can be attributed to its concentrated liquidity, lower fees, and the revival of developers around Solana natively memecoins, perp DEXs, and token launchpads.

Investors and institutions are benefiting from deeper on-chain liquidity, reduced slippage, and access to a wide range of assets without taking custody risk. Developers also see benefits through composability and faster iteration cycles of decentralized applications (DApps). However, CEXs like Bybit, Coinbase, and Kraken may face challenges in responding to this trend.
