Solana Enters Institutional Arena as Korean Asset Manager Tests Tokenized Bond Funds

South Korea's Shinhan Asset Management is testing tokenized bond funds on Solana, marking an important step in the country's security token framework. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Solana Foundation, Etherfuse, and Orca to develop won-denominated ultra-short bond funds on the blockchain.

The proof-of-concept project will cover key areas such as KYC/AML compliance, blockchain operations, foreign-exchange requirements, and on-chain liquidity. It's based on BlackRock's BUIDL model, which has been successful in other regions.

This move comes as South Korea prepares a regulatory framework for security token offerings (STOs). While the agreement doesn't guarantee new capital will flow onto Solana, it offers an early test of whether the network can support institutional financial products in one of Asia's most closely watched digital-asset markets.
