Solana Expands Transaction Size Limit Threefold in Major Network Upgrade
Solana is preparing to activate an upgrade on September 9 that will significantly increase the maximum transaction size on its network. The new limit, set at 4,096 bytes, represents a tripling of the current 1,232-byte limit.
This change allows for larger transactions and supports more complex operations such as zero-knowledge proofs, rollups, and large multisignatures. However, developers will need to migrate their transactions to the new v1 format in order to access these capabilities.
The Solana Foundation identified several use cases that will benefit from the increased space, including large-scale multisigs, BLS signatures, and zero-knowledge proof systems. Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, noted that this upgrade enables atomic transactions across two ZK roots in a single transaction.
