Solana Fee Vote Fails Despite Majority Support: What It Means for the Network
The Solana fee vote on SGP-0003 ended with an unexpected result. A majority of participating stakeholders supported the reform, but it still failed to pass due to a two-thirds supermajority requirement. The proposal aimed to introduce a new resource-fee system, where users would pay for requested resources in addition to the existing inclusion fees.
The voting results showed that 142.844 million $SOL voted in favor of the reform, while 50.146 million voted against it. Another 72.025 million abstained from voting, leaving the proposal short of the required two-thirds majority by approximately 33.83 million $SOL.
The outcome exposed a conflict within Solana's governance framework, where stakeholders and validators have formal authority over proposals. The failed vote also highlighted the influence of co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, who publicly supported the reform but could not secure the necessary support from stakeholders.
