Solana Governance Proposals Could Cut SOL Supply and Boost Token Burns

Solana governance proposals have reached the discussion phase after gaining enough community support to move forward. If approved, they could reduce SOL issuance and boost token burns, changing Solana's long-term token economics. The two proposals aim to increase Solana's annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, but keep the network's long-term inflation target of 1.5% unchanged. This change would allow Solana to reach its target inflation rate in about 2.8 years instead of the current estimate of 5.7 years. According to the proposal, around 18.9 million fewer SOL would enter circulation over six years compared to the current schedule. The second proposal focuses on changing how Solana handles transaction fees, potentially increasing token burns by more than 1,200% and making fees fairer. Several major Solana ecosystem participants have backed the proposals, including Helius and Jupiter, which contributed approximately 16 million SOL and 12.47 million SOL in support respectively. The final decision will still depend on a community governance vote, which will take place after the discussion period ends on August 22.
