Solana Hits 350ms Blockchain Slot Time, Targets 300ms Next
Solana's blockchain slot time has been reduced to 350 milliseconds, marking a significant milestone for the network. According to Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, this reduction represents the first such decrease since the inception of the network.
In June, the Solana Foundation announced plans to lower slot times from 400ms to 200ms, citing improved latency and accelerated confirmations as key benefits. The target for mainnet activation in Agave v4.2, a validator client developed by Anza, is set for four stages of reduction, with each stage decreasing by 50 milliseconds.
The first stage has already been implemented, reducing slot times from 400ms to 350ms. This achievement is seen as a significant step towards the ultimate goal of reaching 200ms slot times, which would further enhance the network's performance and user experience.
