Solana Network Withstands Infrastructure Failure, Validates Resilience
The Solana network withstood an infrastructure failure that temporarily disrupted part of its validator network on August 12. According to Solana Foundation technology executive Jacob Creech, 597 out of 699 staked validators continued voting while the network remained operational.
Despite the disruption, blocks and transactions kept being processed normally. The affected validators recovered within 40 minutes, with only 102 validators temporarily stopping their voting.
The incident exposed a concentration of stake behind common infrastructure, allowing one provider failure to remove a large share of voting stake at once. Marinade Finance found that 28.83% of all staked SOL became delinquent for about 33 minutes.
Teraswitch's routing fault spread from Miami to Asia, affecting twelve sites in London, Amsterdam, Dublin, Frankfurt, Singapore, and Tokyo. Engineers restored connectivity within an hour, but the underlying defect remains under investigation.
