Solana Overtakes Ethereum as Top Destination for New Developers

After eight years of dominance, Ethereum has been dethroned by Solana as the go-to destination for new developers in 2024. According to a report by Electric Capital, Solana welcomed more new developers than Ethereum for the first time since 2016 in July.

The influx of talent into Solana continued throughout the year, with 7,625 developers joining the ecosystem, compared to Ethereum's 6,456. Solana's rise to the top was marked by an 83% increase in ecosystem activity since the previous year.

While Ethereum remains the most substantial ecosystem globally for total developer engagement, its layer-2 networks have shown significant growth, with a 64% increase since 2021. Notably, 26% of monthly crypto developers target these L2s and the mainnet.
