Solana Perpetual Futures Open Interest Surges to $500M
Solana's perpetual futures open interest has surged to $500 million, its highest point in nine months. This milestone signals that traders are returning to Solana's on-chain derivatives venues after a relatively quiet stretch.
To put this number into context, Solana-based platforms accounted for roughly 3% of the total open interest market share and about 2% of volume market share during Q1 2026. This $500 million mark feels less like a new frontier and more like a comeback tour.
The rebound in Solana's on-chain derivatives is driven by several factors, including the success of PhoenixTrade, a decentralized exchange built by Ellipsis Labs. The platform recently hit a record open interest of between $10 million and $11 million in late July 2026, representing a roughly 25% jump from its previous high.
A significant chunk of PhoenixTrade's growth can be attributed to an incentive program called Flight Club, which distributed $420,000 to users. This initiative spiked the platform's daily trading volume to $67.1 million and contributed to the broader SOL futures market seeing a dramatic increase in open interest.
