Solana Prepares for Quantum Future with Quantumglow
Solana developers have announced Quantumglow, a new modification of Alpenglow aimed at keeping Solana's performance high and preparing for future cryptography changes. This move is to prevent potential attacks on blockchains using ECDSA and Ed25519 keys due to growing interest in quantum computing.
Quantumglow modifies Solana's consensus and execution layer to support post-quantum signature schemes without affecting speed. Validators, developers, institutions, and exchanges operating the Solana platform must adapt to this change. Validators will be the last to transition to the new verification process.
The release of Quantumglow reflects the trend of making blockchain more secure before regulation on cryptographic standards is implemented. However, no release date has been mentioned for the new feature, as it is still in the research stage.
