Solana Prepares Massive Upgrade to Triple Transaction Size on September 9
Solana is gearing up for a major network upgrade on September 9, which will triple its maximum transaction size from 1,232 to 4,096 bytes. This change will enable new capabilities, such as atomic transactions with zero-knowledge proofs and rollups.
The upgrade adopts the QUIC protocol and builds upon the SIMD-0296 proposal. It does not modify existing transactions but introduces a new format (v1) for developers to migrate to in order to access the new features. Legacy and v0 transactions will continue operating under their current rules.
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, highlighted the significance of this upgrade, noting that it enables atomic transactions with two zero-knowledge roots in a single transaction. He also mentioned that rollups built on the network could become viable as a result of this change.
