Solana Price Breaks Through $100 Barrier as Institutional Demand Surges
Solana's price has finally broken through the $100 barrier, sparking excitement among traders after months of stagnant price action. The move follows a significant weekly rally of over 25% and is accompanied by renewed institutional demand, with Solana-focused ETFs posting $33.49 million in inflows on August 24.
The surge in demand is also reflected in derivatives activity, with 24-hour Solana futures volume jumping 78.14% to $15.30 billion, while open interest has climbed 12.65% to $6.66 billion. Options activity has also surged, with options volume up 70.59% to $33.80 million and options open interest increasing 6.63% to $151.85 million.
The Solana network is also undergoing significant upgrades, including the Agave 4.2 release on mainnet, which brings larger transaction capacity and a phased reduction in slot times. The next-generation consensus upgrade, Alpenglow, targeting roughly 150ms finality, is expected to be activated on mainnet in Q3 2026.
While the breakout above $100 is a significant development, it remains to be seen whether buyers can turn this level into durable support and extend the move toward $120. A successful retest of $100 followed by a break above $105-$110 would strengthen the bullish structure, while continued ETF inflows and rising network activity would provide additional support for that move.
