Solana Sees Massive Influx of Tokens to Exchanges Amid Market Cap Slump
Solana's market dynamics have taken an interesting turn as the token saw a significant influx of tokens to exchanges. Over the past 17 days, exchange balances for Solana (SOL) increased by 2.35 million SOL, worth approximately $202 million at current prices.
This development coincides with the network's Market Value to Realized Value ratio falling below 0.8, a threshold last reached in May 2022. The MVRV Pricing Bands metric tracks Solana's market capitalization relative to its realized capitalization - the aggregate cost basis of all tokens based on their last on-chain movement.
Glassnode data shows that active deposit flows to exchanges spiked earlier this month before moderating, but exchange wallets continue holding elevated SOL balances following multi-week accumulation. The MVRV Ratio and Historical Context indicate that Solana has remained beneath the 0.8 threshold for 26% of recent sessions.
The current price levels show Solana trading at $86 as of February 17, down approximately 70% from its January 2025 peak. Elevated exchange balances can also indicate improved liquidity for potential buyers during periods of price weakness, although exchange inflow data typically reflects selling pressure.
