Solana Set for Block Production Speed Boost with Four-Phase Upgrade
The Solana network is about to undergo a significant upgrade aimed at increasing block production speed. The current block production interval of 400 milliseconds will be reduced to 200 milliseconds, approximately doubling the network's speed. This change is expected to improve transaction capacity and overall network performance.
The four-phase upgrade plan has already been integrated into the Agave validator software developed by Anza, the client for the Solana network. The updates will be implemented gradually, allowing developers to monitor the impact of each phase on the network before moving on to the next change.
The first phase of the upgrade is scheduled to be activated with epoch number 1020. Epochs represent periods covering a specific number of slots, playing a crucial role in protocol updates and changes to network parameters.
