Solana Slashes Slot Time to 350ms in Bid for Lightning-Fast Transactions
Solana is cutting its target slot time from 400ms to 350ms as part of a staged upgrade toward a 200ms target. This marks the first step in reducing slot times, which will be decreased by 50ms increments until they reach 200ms.
The reduction aims to improve confirmation speed and reduce latency for trading, payments, and DeFi applications on Solana's network. A 200ms slot time would theoretically double block-production frequency, allowing the network to produce blocks more quickly.
Solana is rolling out changes aimed at increasing transaction capacity and reducing storage costs alongside the reduction in slot times. The upgrade is being implemented through four stages: from 400ms to 350ms, then 300ms, 250ms, and finally 200ms. Each stage requires network stability and block-skip rates before proceeding.
