Solana Slashes Slot Time to 350ms in Pursuit of Lightning-Fast Network
Solana has achieved a significant milestone in its quest for speed and efficiency by reducing its blockchain slot time to 350 milliseconds, marking the first such reduction since its inception.
The change is part of Solana's staged roadmap to reach a target of 200 milliseconds, which it believes will improve latency and accelerate confirmations across the network.
Average slot times currently sit at roughly 360 milliseconds, down from the original 400-millisecond target. The reduction is enabled by SIMD-0525, a proposal that was approved and merged on May 14.
The Solana Foundation has argued that tighter slots reduce the time between transaction submission and confirmation, a property that matters for payments and high-frequency applications.
