Solana Speeds Up: Block Time Reduction from 400ms to 200ms
Solana has started its phased rollout to reduce block time from 400ms to 200ms, potentially doubling block frequency as the network prepares for further performance improvements.
The upgrade will be implemented in four stages: 400ms to 350ms, then 300ms, 250ms, and finally 200ms. The network will move through each stage separately, with validators and developers monitoring skipped blocks and network performance before each subsequent reduction.
At the final 200ms stage, Solana would theoretically produce around 300 slots per minute, compared to approximately 150 at 400ms. This change is intended to improve latency and make the network more competitive for applications that require faster confirmations.
