Solana Speeds Up Mainnet with 350ms Slot Time Reduction
Solana's mainnet slot time has been reduced to 350 milliseconds, marking the first such change since its launch. The reduction, which took effect at epoch 1020, is part of a four-stage plan to reach a 200-millisecond target.
The Solana Foundation published the plan in June and activated it on Friday through the Agave validator client's version 4.2 release. The change will impact validators, who will now have tighter timing margins as they attempt to process blocks within the new time frame.
According to Anza executives, the reduction is expected to quadruple network throughput in the near term. The theoretical maximum for block compute remains near 250 million units per second, while the maximum block limit drops to 87.5 million units at 350 milliseconds.
