Solana Stands Tall Despite Sui's Technical Advantages
The Solana blockchain has long been compared to its younger rival Sui. The question is which one comes out on top. In a detailed comparison, CryptoRank evaluated both chains across five rounds: technology, ecosystem, economics, tokenomics and supply, and risk. While Sui excelled in the first round with its object-based model and Move language, Solana dominated the subsequent four rounds.
In terms of ecosystem, Solana carries a significantly larger market presence, with $4.9 billion in DeFi TVL compared to Sui's $450 million. Additionally, Solana has a more established launchpad culture and a deeper meme coin market. Sui's DeFi TVL peaked at $2.1 billion but has since collapsed.
When it comes to economics, Solana generates network fees in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per day, while Sui's chain fees are measured in the thousands. Low fees were a design goal for Sui, but its lack of volume means it fails to generate significant revenue. Similarly, Sui's tokenomics and supply structure weigh heavily on its chart, with a fully diluted valuation of $6.7 billion against a market cap of $2.7 billion.
Finally, Solana's risks are those of a large incumbent, including heavy correlation to meme coin cycles and historical outage baggage. Sui's risks are more existential, with a significant TVL collapse and ongoing unlock overhang.
