Solana Surges as Standard Chartered Unleashes Institutional Crypto Trading
Global banking giant Standard Chartered made a significant move in the crypto space by launching its Bitcoin and Ethereum spot trading service for corporate clients in the UAE. The bank, operating through its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) operations, aims to expand institutional investors' access to traditional financial infrastructure.
This marks the first time a global bank has offered direct cryptocurrency spot trading to institutional clients in the Gulf country. Standard Chartered had already begun offering similar services for $BTC and $ETH to institutional clients in the UK in 2025.
Notably, the bank's Head of Digital Asset Research, Geoff Kendrick, highlighted Solana's strong position in the stablecoin market during an interview on Solana's official podcast. He stated that approximately one-fifth of the $7 trillion worth of transactions processed monthly via stablecoins are handled by the Solana network.
Kendrick attributed Solana's success to its low transaction costs and high transaction capacity, which enable it to stand out in stablecoin and micro-payment applications.
