Solana Targets Lightning-Fast Transactions with Alpenglow Upgrade
Solana is gearing up for a major upgrade to its consensus architecture, dubbed Alpenglow. This upgrade aims to reduce transaction finality from around 12.8 seconds to just 150 milliseconds.
This could significantly improve the speed at which the Solana network reaches cryptographic finality, the point where validators have established enough consensus for a transaction to be considered effectively irreversible.
Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has emphasized that finality is crucial, especially in high-stakes transactions like cryptocurrency payments. He noted that merchants handling large-value payments require stronger assurance that a payment cannot later disappear from the canonical chain.
