Solana Treasury Plans Send Bit Mining Stock Soaring
Bit Mining, a Bitcoin mining firm, has made a significant pivot in its strategy by announcing plans to build a substantial Solana token treasury. The company aims to raise between $200 and $300 million through this initiative. This decision is expected to have a notable impact on the market, with Bit Mining's stock price surging 350% in pre-market trading to reach $11, up from its closing price of $2 on Wednesday.
In preparation for this new strategy, Bit Mining plans to convert existing crypto holdings into Solana tokens and adopt long-term holding strategies. The company will also operate validator nodes on the Solana network to support decentralization and security efforts. According to CEO Xianfeng Yang, this move marks a 'bold step' into one of blockchain's most dynamic ecosystems.
Bit Mining ranks as the 17th-largest Bitcoin miner globally by market capitalization. This pivot follows a similar move made by Bit Digital, which abandoned its focus on Bitcoin mining for Ethereum-focused strategies. Initially, Bit Digital's stock declined 15% but has since recovered to surge 80% following their announcement.
