Solana Triples Transaction Size Limit to 4,096 Bytes in Mainnet Upgrade
Solana has completed a mainnet upgrade that triples its transaction size limit from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. This change will allow developers more room for complex operations like zero-knowledge proofs and transactions with multiple signatures.
The upgrade was activated on Tuesday at the start of epoch 1,035 around 1:00 am UTC, according to blockchain data shared by the Solana Foundation. The new v1 transaction format maintains full backward compatibility with legacy transactions, ensuring that existing applications and wallet providers continue working as usual.
The Solana Foundation aims to help developers 'do more' with applications like zero-knowledge proofs, which require more space than previously allowed. The upgrade mainly targets these use cases by unlocking workloads that couldn't fit inside a single transaction before.
