Solana Upgrades Network, Boosts Ecosystem Growth
Solana's network upgrade is now live on testnet, cutting block times in half. The first of four scheduled reductions has dropped block time from 400ms to 350ms, with the goal of reaching 200ms. This change should result in roughly doubled confirmation times and tighter market spreads for traders.
Alongside this upgrade is Agave 4.2, which targets mainnet feature activation on August 17. The release includes a 90% reduction in on-chain rent costs and a maximum transaction size increase from 1,232 to 4,096 bytes.
Solana validators are backing a proposal that could raise daily SOL burns up to 14x, aimed at speeding up disinflation from both the supply and issuance side. Meanwhile, Anza has opened bug bounty submissions for Alpenglow, Solana's biggest consensus rewrite yet, offering researchers up to 50,000 SOL worth about $3.8 million.
The Solana ecosystem is experiencing record highs across trading and usage, with Frontier Traders crossing $1 billion in combined spot and perpetuals volume on the blockchain, tokenized equities volume reaching $1.45 billion in July, and weekly transactions topping 1 billion for the first time.
