Solana Upgrades Set to Bolster Its Position Against Ethereum, Avalanche, and Sui
Solana is gearing up for major upgrades that could give it an edge over other high-performance blockchains like Ethereum, Avalanche, and Sui. The Agave 4.2 upgrade is activating three key changes: reducing storage costs by 90%, increasing transaction sizes by 3.3 times, and staging a reduction in slot times from 400ms to 200ms. Faster slots mean lower latency and quicker transaction processing.
According to Anza CEO Brennan Watt, the first step towards this goal is cutting mainnet slot times from ~400ms to 350ms. This change aims to improve network performance for applications that require speed, such as trading, payments, and other high-frequency transactions.
Solana's upgrades are likely to boost its position against competing networks, particularly in areas where speed is critical. However, the success of these changes depends on network stability and block-skip rates, which will be closely monitored.
