Solana Upgrades Transaction Limits, Rent Requirements, and Slot Times
Solana is preparing for two major upgrades in the coming months.
The first, Transaction V1, will increase the maximum serialized transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes on September 9. This represents a roughly 3.3-fold increase and will give developers more room for complex on-chain operations and data-heavy applications.
Solana also plans to reduce rent requirements by up to 90% through five stages. The first reduction is set to take place the week starting August 31, and each subsequent stage could lower requirements further.
The network has also reduced its target slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds, with further reductions planned. Alpenglow, a consensus redesign targeting approximately 150-millisecond transaction finality, is still targeted for October but requires individual validator activations and testing before mainnet activation.
