Solana Validators Approve Disinflation Rate Hike in First Governance Vote

Solana validators have approved the first proposal to pass through the network's onchain governance system, raising the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%. This change will accelerate Solana's descent to a 1.5% terminal inflation floor.

The proposal, SGP-0002, passed with 72.7% support among validators, exceeding the two-thirds supermajority required for approval. The measure aims to reduce emissions over six years and bring the network to terminal inflation by the first half of 2029.

Kraken's large validator initially voted against the proposal but reversed its stance in the final hours before voting closed, moving around 8.1 million SOL from 'against' to 'for'. The switch alone would not have changed the outcome, as support still exceeded the threshold even without Kraken's reversal.
