Solana's 46% Price Surge: What's Behind the Outperformance?
Solana has been outperforming Bitcoin in recent times, and its price surge is not just due to capital leaving Bitcoin for Solana. According to recent data, Solana's price rose by about 46% since mid-August, reaching a new high of $109.41 on August 27. At the same time, Bitcoin hovered around $80,000.
The timing of Solana's surge is not a coincidence. On August 27, Solana's first formal on-chain governance vote closed, and just two hours later, its price cleared the $102.70 level that had rejected it the previous day.
Three proposals went to a stake-weighted vote between August 22 and 27: SGP-0001, which ratified a canonical governance framework; SGP-0002, which doubled the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, reducing future issuance by around $1.7 billion over six years; and SGP-0003, which proposed a fixed inclusion fee of 2,500 lamports per transaction.
The vote only authorizes development, and technical implementation, testing, and on-chain activation will follow separately through the SIMD process. Solana Company, listed on Nasdaq as HSDT, backed the constitution but voted against both the faster disinflation and the fee changes.
